Original SU carbs were full of crud. It might be
interesting
to rebuild them and I won't be throwing them away, but I decided to
replace
them with a pair of Weber 40 DCOEs. This was a common
contemporary
upgrade available from the factory and FIA-homologated by Lotus.
I bought this pair of unused matching carbs from an Alfa mechanic today. |

Searching for Derrington cast intake manifolds...
Update: Found at Dave
Bean
Engineering (thanks Tom!).
The photographs at right and below show the parts as they
arrived.
I assume these are replicas of the original Derringtons. Does
anyone
know the manufacturer or the significance of the code "MR 8000"?

On the whole, the casting looks to be of a high
quality. Just
a few minor burrs around the flanges to clean up. Note that the
holes
for the studs on the port side are not pre-drilled.
From my (limited) past experience, I am inclined against
polishing the
channels. Other opinions? Since I don't have the block on hand, I
can't yet say how closely the manifold openings match the ports.

These lenses were destined for someone's MG Magnette, but
they should
fit nicely on the tail of 1821. |

Picked up this set of new Lucas PL700 headlamps on
eBay. PL700s
replaced the standard sealed-beam headlamps on Special Equipment
Elites.
Still need to find proper rims, but these are just too beautiful for
words.
PL700s also graced a number of the Elite's contemporary rivals,
including
the Jaguar XKE. See the Dime
Bank Garage for more on life with Lucas headlamps. |
